Delete your account and data

This page explains how to ask FairTaxi to delete your account and the personal data linked to it, what we delete, what we have to keep and why, and how long the process takes. It applies to both the FairTaxi rider app and the FairTaxi driver app.

Delete your account from the app

The quickest way to delete your account is inside the app you use.

Riders

Open the rider app and request account erasure from your account settings. You confirm by typing a short confirmation word. The request is blocked while you have an active ride, so finish or cancel any ride first. If you sponsor other people through a family link, they are notified that the link is ending. You can also download a full, machine-readable copy of your data from the app before you delete.

Drivers

Open the driver app and close your account from your account settings. This is a two-step flow that shows you exactly what is retained before you confirm. Once confirmed, we anonymise your account, restrict access to your uploaded document files (which we must keep for a legal-compliance period, explained below), and email you a Data Deletion Certificate. You can also download a full copy of your data from the app before you close.

Request deletion by email

If you cannot access the app, or you no longer have it installed, email us at privacy@fairtaxi.ie from the email address on your account and ask us to delete your account and data. We may need to verify your identity before we act on the request, so that we do not delete the wrong person’s data.

What we delete

When you erase or close your account, we permanently delete or irreversibly anonymise the personal data that identifies you, including:

Your name, email address and phone number, which are replaced with a random reference that no longer identifies you.
Saved addresses, favourites, payment methods, blocked lists, device tokens, diagnostic logs and account links.
For drivers: personal fields such as PPS number, IBAN, addresses and licence-holder names are overwritten or blanked, your profile photo is permanently deleted, and your location history and device tokens are deleted. Your licensing and vehicle vetting document files are retained for a legal-compliance period rather than deleted immediately (see below).

What we keep, and why

We cannot delete everything immediately, because some records must be kept to meet legal and tax obligations:

Ride and payment records are kept for 7 years after completion, to meet financial record-keeping and tax obligations. After erasure or closure they are held under a pseudonymised or anonymised reference that is not linked to your identity, and are then permanently deleted.
Driver licensing and vehicle documents are kept while you are an active driver and for 7 years after your last trip, to meet transport regulatory and legal record-keeping obligations. Both the vetting document files and the metadata needed for audit are retained for this period to meet those legal-compliance obligations, and are then permanently deleted.

How long it takes

In-app erasure and closure begin immediately when you confirm. For requests sent by email, we respond within one month (30 days), in line with the GDPR. If a request is unusually complex we may extend this, and we will tell you if we do.

Your other rights

Deletion is one of several rights you have under the GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018. You also have the right to access, correct, restrict, port and object to the processing of your data.
